A recent study proves that by learning a foreign language, the brains elasticity and ability to code information is increased. It is revealed that the more a person learns, the more it decodes and shows improvement in the brain activity level in the process.
22 students (10 male 12 female) were used for the experiment. EEG was taken to measure the brains activity levels. These people had electrodes attached to their heads and readings were documented at different timing in accordance to the words (known and foreign, that were displayed.
Whenever some unknown words came up, there was a brain activity. Researchers tracked the activity with the speed it took to react.
The research shows that the brain activity whenever a foreign language was mentioned was elevated.
Yurij Shtyroy of the University of Helsinki reports that “The more languages someone mastered, the faster the neuron network coding the information on the new words was formed. Consequently, this new data stimulates the brain’s physiology — loading the mind with more knowledge boosts its elasticity.”
